Excise and Taxation Department Launched Chip-Based Vehicle Identification Card in Collaboration with NADRA

The Federal Excise and Taxation Department had formally started the issuance of NADRA Chip Based Vehicle Identification Card that will show the detail of both owner and vehicle.

The obverse side of the chip-based vehicle identification card will show:

  • Name of purchaser
  • Father/husband name
  • CNIC or passport number
  • Date of vehicle registration
  • Transferred to
  • Transferee’s father/husband name,
  • Transferee’s CNIC or passport number,
  • Date of transfer
  • Present addressvehicle

Reverse side of the card will contain the complete detail of the vehicle mainly:

  • Chassis number
  • Engine number
  • Number of cylinders
  • Type of body or color
  • Maker’s or make name
  • Class of vehicle
  • Un-laden weight
  • Registered laden weight
  • Type size (front axle, rear axle, other axle)
  • Years of manufacturing
  • Seating capacity
  • Horse power/CC
  • Assessed annual tax
  • Tax to be recovered W.E.F
  • Fitness examination up to.Untitled

The project was started to replace the existing registration book. It was planned in January and took ten month to complete. The initiative has been launched by the Excise and Taxation Department in collaboration with National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Talking over the current scenario, Deputy Commissioner Mujahid Sherdil said, “The basic objective of the project is to convert the decades-old system into a modern one, as is practiced internationally.”

Almost 850,000 vehicles are registered with the Excise Department. DC also said that department will convert the existing registered books into a smartcard on request of the customer.

Fee of Vehicle Identification Card:

Fee for issuing of new smartcard is Rs. 1,450. Both fresh and converted cards will be charged at the same price.

Moreover, a sticker of the extension of a vehicle’s token will be issued as well. “In case a card is lost and the vehicle owner reports it, it will be blocked before issuing a new one”, DC said.
